University Hospitals Rainbow Babies & Children’s Hospital, a premier pediatric medical institution in northeast Ohio, offers physical therapy, occupational therapy, and speech-language pathology services for children of all ages. Our therapists have the specialized knowledge, experience and training to perform comprehensive assessments and treatment for children with a wide range of diagnoses and rehabilitation needs, including but not limited to:

In addition, our therapists work closely with leading pediatric specialists in neurology, orthopedics, cardiology, gastroenterology, ear, nose and throat (ENT) and otolaryngology, audiology, and the Center for Comprehensive Care, among others. Working at UH Rainbow Babies & Children’s Hospital provides our therapists with experience and expertise in treating children with complex and challenging medical conditions typically seen only in large academic medical centers.

Individualized Rehabilitation Plans

Upon referral to UH pediatric rehabilitation services, our pediatric physical therapists, occupational therapists and speech-language pathologists perform a comprehensive evaluation to determine how the child’s injury or condition is impacting his or her growth and development, level of independence with activities of daily living, and ability to function at an age-appropriate level at home and in the community. After the initial evaluation, our pediatric therapists work with the child and parents to develop an individualized therapy plan.

For children who require multiple services, our therapists coordinate care to create an optimal rehabilitation plan that addresses all areas. How often a child is scheduled for therapy is based on level of medical complexity, rate of progress, and other factors that may change over time. Parents and family members are considered essential members of the therapy team, providing input regarding the child’s goals and plan of care and performing home programs and carryover activities to ensure the most successful outcome.
