The LeRoy W. Matthews Cystic Fibrosis Center Menu
The LeRoy W. Matthews Cystic Fibrosis Care Center at University Hospitals Rainbow Babies & Children’s Hospital and Case Western Reserve School of Medicine was established in 1957. As one of the first Cystic Fibrosis Foundation-accredited care centers in the country, we have been nationally recognized for the treatment of patients with cystic fibrosis for over 50 years.
Zoe’s Wish for Cystic Fibrosis Patients
Our philosophy of care combines the most advanced cystic fibrosis care available with respect for the quality of life of the patient. We place tremendous emphasis on the physician/patient relationship and feel that a patient should have 24-hour access to a physician with deep knowledge of cystic fibrosis, easy access to the office, and competent, comfortable inpatient care when needed.
We are the one of the largest cystic fibrosis centers in Ohio, with approximately 350 patients from 14 states, most of whom receive their routine care and hospitalizations at our center. We receive referrals from the State of Ohio newborn screening program, from physicians at other cystic fibrosis centers to evaluate difficult-to-diagnose patients, for second opinions regarding treatment options, and for the opportunity to participate in clinical trials.
We have one of the oldest cystic fibrosis populations in the country, with almost 30 percent of our adult population being over the age of 35 years old. This gives us special expertise in the care of older cystic fibrosis patients, whose cases may be more complicated.
The clinicians who staff the Cystic Fibrosis Center are specialists in a wide range of disciplines, so our team is able to bring a wide variety of expertise to our patients in one medical office. Our multidisciplinary team includes experts in:
In addition to the primary cystic fibrosis physicians, we have access to a consulting staff of more than 40 adult and pediatric specialists who are knowledgeable, experienced and readily available, including:
