Why Choose UH?

The eye is a complex organ, and the visual process is affected by many factors and diseases. It is important to seek a specialized, experienced team to care for problems related to your child’s eyes and vision. Working together with the adult eye experts at University Hospitals Eye Institute, the pediatric ophthalmologists, optometrists and other specialists form a unified team to provide the full spectrum of treatment for eye- and vision-related problems in children.

As a regional referral center for complex trauma and pediatric eye diseases, we are able to care for nearly all patients right within our department, without the need for outside referrals. Additionally, we routinely treat out-of-state and international patients who need specialized care for complex or rare diseases.

Multidisciplinary Team for Complex Care

Our team works closely with other pediatric and adult specialists to diagnose and treat eye diseases and conditions that require complex multidisciplinary care, including craniofacial disorders, orbital tumors, genetic disorders, vascular anomalies, inflammatory diseases, and systemic conditions and medications.

Innovators in Ophthalmic Research

Our team collaborates with other UH departments and outside institutions to develop and refine new innovative technologies and techniques for treating pediatric eye diseases. We currently have research projects in progress encompassing almost all aspects of pediatric ophthalmology.

Training Tomorrow’s Leaders in Pediatric Eye Care

Our Technology

The eye is a complex organ. Therefore, specialized devices and equipment is needed to assess, diagnose and treat all the different parts of the eye. At UH Rainbow, we utilize cutting-edge technology – including 3-D ocular ultrasonography (invented and only available at UH Rainbow worldwide), optical coherence tomography (OCT), wide field photography, angiography, ICG photography, red free photography, and electrophysiology – to diagnose and treat eye diseases. With our Case Western Reserve University School of Engineering partnership, we develop and utilize artificial intelligence algorithms to understand disease trends and demographics in various problems.
