However, very young children are different because they are still growing and complete fusion surgery can limit development. UH Rainbow Babies & Children’s Hospital’s Division of Pediatric Orthopedic Surgery in Ohio participated in the development of ScoliScore, a simple, painless saliva sample test that can help determine, through DNA analysis, whether a child’s spinal curve will progress. UH Rainbow Babies & Children’s Hospital offers this highly accurate test to children between the ages of 9 and 13 who have recently been diagnosed with adolescent idiopathic scoliosis (AIS) and have a mild curvature of the spine.
