Bo’s corner: Summer swimming smarts

Now that the weather is warm, are you ready to make a big splash at the pool? Bo the Take Care Bear is ready to jump in and have some fun. In fact, swimming and floating in the pool are some of his favorite summer activities. But before you jump in, Bo asks that you think about these simple rules to stay safe while having fun.

  • Always swim with a partner. Do this even if you know how to swim really well. Besides, it is more fun to swim with friends!
  • Stay out of deep water. Do not go in water that is so deep you cannot touch the bottom.
  • Keep an eye on your friends – especially your friends who are not as good at swimming as you are.
  • Swim in safe areas only. Make sure a parent or a lifeguard is watching at all times.
  • Be careful about diving. Dive only in areas that are known to be safe. If you are not sure how safe the pool is, ask an adult.
  • Ask your parents if you can take swimming lessons. Lessons can help you to be a better swimmer.
