UH Rainbow Babies & Children’s Hospital Checks Hundreds of Car Seats and Accepts $75,265 Donation From Kohl’s
Hundreds of little pirates and princesses will be traveling more safely on Cleveland’s roadways at the conclusion of Child Passenger Safety Week on Sunday, Sept. 22. As a culmination of the week dedicated to ensuring the safety of children traveling in cars, University Hospitals Rainbow Babies & Children’s Hospital will host two car seat safety events where parents can have car seats and booster seats checked by certified child passenger safety experts for proper installation and use and get help in selecting the right restraint for a child’s age and weight. The pirate and princess-themed events will also include activities for children and health screenings for adults. Radio Disney Junior will be on hand with Jake and the Neverland Pirates and Sophia the First games and crafts.
“Although we do car seat installations all year round at UH Rainbow, it is always exciting to get out into the community and check as many seats as possible in one weekend.” explains Kathryn Wesolowski, Manager of the UH Rainbow Injury Prevention Center. “We try to make it as convenient as possible for parents by hosting events on the east and west sides of town and appealing to the whole family by adding in games and activities for the kids and a popular theme, like this year’s pirates and princesses events.”
Families can also drop off used car seats at both events for recycling. Rainbow’s car seat recycling program keeps thousands of pounds of plastics and other materials out of landfills each year.
As part of the festivities, Kohl’s will present a check for $75,265 to UH Rainbow Babies & Children’s Hospital at Sunday’s event. This donation supports the Kohl’s Safe Rides for All Kids program in the Rainbow Injury Prevention Center, which focuses on getting every member of the family riding safely. Supported by Kohl’s since 2006, the Safe Rides for All Kids program reaches thousands of area youth—from preschool through high school—each year. The donated funds are raised by the sale of books and plushes in local Kohl’s stores throughout the year.
