Check presented at Car Seat Safety Day with Pirates & Princesses

Kohls Safe Rides for All Kids

LYNDHURST, Ohio – (Sept. 22, 2013) – Plenty of pirates and princesses were on hand Sunday to participate in a car seat safety day that included a generous donation of $75,265 to University Hospitals Rainbow Babies & Children’s Hospital from Kohl’s Department Stores.

The check was presented during the annual car seat safety day event that serves as the culmination of National Child Passenger Safety Week. The event was held at Legacy Village and featured games and activities with a pirate and princess theme, health screenings for the adults and, most importantly, car seat and booster seat checks by certified child passenger safety experts.

The Kohl’s donation will continue to fund the Kohl’s Safe Rides for All Kids Program at UH Rainbow Babies & Children’s Hospital. The program was developed with Kohl’s initial gift in 2006 as a multifaceted effort to increase restraint use for children of every age by reaching kids and parents where they live, work and play. To date, Kohl’s has donated more than $1.3 million to this effort. The goal of the program is to ensure that children are traveling as safely as possible every time they are in a vehicle by using the restraint that is most appropriate for their age, height and weight.

“Car seat safety day with pirates and princesses is the perfect example of what the Kohl’s Safe Rides for All Kids Program is all about,” said Kathryn Wesolowski, manager of the Rainbow Injury Prevention Center. “The generous support of Kohl’s enables us to take important child passenger safety messages and education out into the community all year-round.”

Kohl's commitment to UH Rainbow Babies & Children’s Hospital is made possible through the Kohl's Cares® cause merchandise program. Through this initiative, Kohl’s sells $5 books and plush toys, with 100 percent of net profit benefiting children’s health and education programs nationwide, including hospital partnerships like this one. Kohl's has raised more than $231 million through this merchandise program. In addition to the merchandise program, Kohl's Cares features the Kohl's Cares® Scholarship Program, which last year recognized more than 2,300 young volunteers with more than $400,000 in scholarships and prizes. Through Kohl’s Associates in Action volunteer program, more than 669,000 associates have donated more than 2.2 million hours of their time since 2001, and Kohl’s has donated more than $63 million to youth-focused nonprofit organizations. Kohl’s also offers fundraising gift cards for schools and youth-serving organizations. For more information, visit www.Kohls.com/Cares.
