Well-Being Retreat

The Wellbeing Retreat Offers Relaxation and Healing Therapies for Individuals Coping with Cancer

The Well-Being Retreat is a sanctuary where cancer patients can renew and retreat from their illness through massage therapy, Reiki treatments, and other services that can help patients relax, revitalize, and re-energize.

The Wellbeing Retreat is located at University Hospitals Seidman Cancer Center at UH Parma Medical Center. Staffed by a licensed massage therapist and Reiki master, the Wellbeing Retreat provides patients with a close-to-home retreat within their own community. This program helps alleviate suffering through psychosocial support, spiritual care, and renewal in a comfortable setting.

Reiki is a Japanese technique for stress reduction and relaxation that also promotes healing. It is administered through the laying on of hands and is believed to work by promoting “life force energy”, which can help patients be happy and healthy. Reiki sessions typically last about 45 minutes. Soft lighting, music and guided imagery can also be used to help patients relax.

Therapeutic massage can help reduce cancer symptoms and improve coping abilities. Massage can:

  • Relieve stiffness and sore joints
  • Reduce stress and anxiety
  • Increase circulation

Guided Imagery

Guided imagery is the use of phrases to evoke positive imaginary scenarios involving the senses. If desired, this meditation technique can also be used during Reiki and massage services for added relaxation.
