Find Relief at the Spine & Pain Center at University Hospitals Parma Medical Center

The Spine & Pain Center at UH Parma Medical Center tailors pain treatment to the specific needs of each patient. Treatment for chronic pain begins quickly with a thorough physical exam and diagnostic testing, including X-ray or magnetic resonance imaging (MRI).

Because four out of five Americans will suffer from various neck or back problems at some point during their lives, UH Parma Medical Center understands that the accompanying pain is as unique as each patient who experiences it.

An Experienced Team Dedicated to Treating Pain

Our treatment teams comprise pain experts from various medical specialties. Experienced registered nurses work closely with an anesthesiologist board certified in both pain management and anesthesiology. Combining expert nursing care with specialized pain management experience provides our patients unparalleled relief from debilitating pain, managed through medication and other interventional procedures.

Leading-Edge Treatments for Every Need

The Spine & Pain Center at UH Parma Medical Center offers many of the latest therapies in pain management, including:

  • Nerve block treatment: This procedure is used to diagnose and treat the source of pain. Therapeutic pain blocks include:
    • Facet joint blocks
    • Lumbar and caudal epidural blocks
    • Nerve blocks for migraine headaches
    • Transforaminal epidural steroid injections
    • Trigger point injections
  • Spinal cord stimulation: Through this method, an implanted pulse generator emits signals to the brain to trick it into replacing the perception of pain with a mild tingling sensation. The patient is then able to control pain by pressing a button on a hand-held remote control.
  • Radio frequency ablation: This treatment utilizes radio frequency energy to interrupt nerve transmission to the medial branch nerves that supply facet joints in the spine. One 30-minute radio frequency ablation procedure can provide up to two years of relief from pain.
  • Vertebroplasty: During this minimally invasive procedure, bone cement is injected into a vertebral compression fracture. The fracture is stabilized, and most patients experience pain relief within minutes to hours.
