The Acute Rehabilitation Center at University Hospitals Parma Medical Center is an inpatient unit that provides comprehensive physical and cognitive rehabilitation. Our rehabilitative team is dedicated to returning patients to independent living at their highest possible level of functioning. UH Parma Medical Center’s Acute Rehabilitation Center is accredited by the Commission of Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF) and has received a special designation for specialty work with stroke patients.
Each patient’s care team establishes a personalized, flexible treatment program that reflects the patient’s unique treatment needs and health goals. Depending on the patient’s requirements, a care team may include:
Family members and supporting caregivers are also an important part of the long-term care team. Discharge planning begins early and family members are encouraged to participate to ease the patient’s transition to home so they can return to an independent life as soon as possible.
The accredited, award-winning Acute Rehabilitation Center at UH Parma Medical Center returns patients to functional independence with higher success than the national average for similar rehabilitation facilities. During the average two-week stay, patients regain mobility and strength through quality care and daily progressive therapy.

To receive care at the Acute Rehabilitation Center at UH Parma Medical Center, patients must be able to tolerate and benefit from at least three hours of therapy per day, five days per week. The 24-hour nursing unit facilitates the patient’s resumption of activities of daily living, using adaptive devices if necessary.
