Family Medicine Residency
Family Medicine Residency Program at University Hospitals Parma Medical Center Department of Medical Education
Michael Saridakis, DO
Welcome to the home of the new Parma UH Family Medicine Residency Program. We are a 3 year 4-4-4 program in its inaugural season, located in the Cleveland suburb of Parma. Our community-based program provides an ideal environment for the family practice resident interested in a real world setting within a medium sized community.
UH Parma Medical Center has been serving the community’s health needs for over 50 years. Our 330 bed, acute care facility is a full service hospital that includes the Parma Heart Center, the University Hospital Seidman Cancer Center, an acute rehabilitation center, as well as the Seasons of Life Hospice Care Facility. Parma Hospital has been nationally recognized for its orthopedics and cardiovascular outcomes. The setting provides our residents a community teaching environment with the opportunity to train side-by-side with outstanding attending physicians. This friendly medium-size setting is small enough to create a family friendly environment, yet large enough to provide exposure to a wide range of state-of-the-art medicine.
As a member of the University Hospital Health System of Cleveland, our residency has access to one of the premiere health centers of the world. A leader in the areas of research and academics, University Hospitals has been providing care for over 150 years. A blend of cutting edge technology along with a dedication to community outreach, University Hospitals has been a leader not only here in Cleveland but throughout the country and world. As a residency affiliated with this great institution, our residents have access not only to high-end academic rotations, but a wide range of conferences and programs.
The University Hospitals motto: “To Teach, To Heal, To Discover” is reflected in our family practice residency. Our goal is to provide the best faculty to “teach” our young physicians. We want to provide quality care to help our patient’s “heal.” And, we want to be a part of the “discovery” of new and exciting medical breakthroughs.
The FM Program Philosophy
Teaching, Service and Leadership. We strive to provide a well-balanced comprehensive curriculum. We are creating a robust learning environment. Our faculty are dedicated to caring for patients as well as medical education. We strive to be active participants in community service as well as advocates for good health. Lastly, we promote leadership both locally here at the hospital and in the community, as well as nationally by encouraging participation in the American Osteopathic Association (AOA) and the American College of Osteopathic Family Physicians (ACOFP).
Affiliate of LECOM
Our program is associated with Lake Erie College of Medicine. This allows access to various teaching modules and curriculum. In addition, our residents work side by side with 3rd and 4th year medical students from the college. This mentoring helps strengthen ones knowledge, as “the best way to understand comes from teaching.”
The Family Medicine Clinic
“Under Construction.” We are excited to announce that we will be moving from a private practice-based clinic located 15 minutes away to a brand-new state-of-the-art facility located at the hospital. This new facility will house 10 new patient exam rooms, a resident’s lounge, and a conference/resource room. Having the new clinic located at the hospital provides direct access not only for patients, but for our residents as well. Our new facility is slated to open July 2016.
