Leading-Edge Trials and Research Benefit Patients
At University Hospitals Digestive Health Institute, we are a leader in bariatric surgery research and an active participant in clinical trials. We are constantly on the lookout for newer, safer techniques that can help our patients enjoy a healthier life. For example, one of our surgeons pioneered single incision laparoscopic surgery (SILS) for sleeve gastrectomy. This technique is at the forefront of advancements in bariatric surgery.
At UH Digestive Health Institute, we fully understand the importance of remaining at the forefront of leading clinical research. Through our academic relationship with Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine and other clinical disciplines, we are participating in a number of studies sponsored by the National Institutes of Health (NIH). These studies are examining:
- Biomarkers of obesity
- Diabetes and obesity
- Using magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) to explore the relationship between brain activity and obesity
