Building a Program of Medical Education in Integrative Medicine
The training and education of both patients and health care professionals is a vital and core component of integrative medicine at University Hospitals.
Based at University Hospitals Ahuja Medical Center, University Hospitals Connor Integrative Medicine Network was established in early 2011 and is already growing exponentially. Included in this growth is the research, design and delivery of relevant educational programs and classroom experiences. Our network of integrative medicine professionals is currently creating a menu of such opportunities: seminars, workshops, retreats, and even an annual symposium on “Healing the Healer.” Many of these programs will provide continuing education and continuing medical education credits.
Training and education developed and delivered out of UH Connor Integrative Medicine Network has several goals including:
- Introduction of and enhanced awareness of integrative medicine modalities, therapies and techniques
- Instruction of pertinent and critical topics promoting and teaching well-being and optimal health (i.e. stress, moods and mindfulness, positive-mindedness, spine health) to the community at large
- Training of physicians, nurses and other clinical health care professionals in order to boost their own personal well-being and to effectively use integrative medicine to benefit UH patients by blending and integrating medical treatments, services and therapies
Our integrative medicine network, as part of a fully sanctioned medical specialty at UH, has already provided 700 Reiki treatments to UH health care professionals and Reiki training and certification to over 100 staff members.
