My daughter Tatiyanna was diagnosed with sickle cell disease at birth. She was admitted over 13 times from 6 months to 2 years old. We decided a bone marrow transplant was her best option.
Everything went well until we learned she had GVHD (Graft-versus-host-disease). The disease attached to her intestines and made her very ill. Tati was at Rainbow for 19 months straight and had several surgeries performed by Dr. Barksdale. This man was truly sent from heaven for us. At times we felt like there was no more hope. But Dr. Barksdale and his team stuck with us from beginning to end. We had the best team and the most amazing nurses I have ever seen. They gave us our hope back and I will never be able to repay them.
Today my daughter is the happy little girl she should have always been. After everything we went through, I would say this is the best place for children. Thank you UH Rainbow Babies & Children’s Hospital. — Tatiyanna Tate and her family. #ThisIsRainbow #SickleCellAwareness
