Call your baby’s doctor or nurse practitioner if you notice:

  • Bad odor, discharge or pus from the cord
  • Thick, yellow drainage from the eyes
  • Refusal to eat several times in a row
  • Vomiting (spitting up most of feedings or spit-up that shoots across the room)
  • Diarrhea – three watery stools in an eight-hour period
  • A fever of 100 degrees or above (Take the baby’s temperature by placing a thermometer under the armpit, with clothing out of the way)
  • Excessive crying for several hours for no apparent reason
  • A sudden change in behavior or activity (irritability or excessive sleepiness)
  • Bleeding from the circumcision
  • Coughing
  • Yellow eye or skin color
  • Less than six to eight wet diapers a day by one week of life
