In honor of Mother’s Day, we offer this quiz – Am I Ready to Have a Baby? – and text that follows excerpted from The Working Woman’s Pregnancy Book written by Marjorie Greenfield, MD, Chief of the Division of General Obstetrics & Gynecology at University Hospitals MacDonald Women’s Hospital.

How do people know they are ready to take on the challenges of pregnancy and parenting? The question – and its answers – come up in different ways. Maybe you’re wondering about that special glow you felt after holding your sister’s newborn, or you can’t wait to see your husband as a dad. Whatever your reason for considering motherhood, the decision usually starts with a feeling – which may run up against practical considerations.

This quiz is designed to help you weigh the importance of those different “head and heart” factors that might influence your decision. You may want to try running through the quiz, reading up on the topic, talking to your partner and others close to you, and then taking it again to see if your answers change after thinking through all the issues.
