Ovulation Induction
Oral or injectable medications are used to stimulate ovulation through medication in most patients before moving onto more involved infertility treatments. Careful monitoring of each cycle optimizes pregnancy rates.
Intrauterine Insemination
Fertility can often be improved by placing washed sperm from either the husband or a donor directly into a woman’s uterus. This simple procedure is performed at our UH MacDonald Women’s Hospital office.
In Vitro Fertilization (IVF)
In this procedure, eggs are removed from a woman’s ovaries and fertilized in the laboratory, then returned to the woman’s uterus several days later. IVF is the next step for infertility that does not respond to simpler treatment. Learn more
Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection (ICSI)
This involves the injection of a single sperm directly into an egg. Thanks to this procedure, even couples with serious sperm problems have an excellent chance of becoming parents.
Embryo Cryopreservation
In this procedure, excess embryos are frozen for a later date. Our Programs’ subsequent pregnancy rates after thawing are some of the highest in the nation.
Shared Oocyte Program
This allows women who are younger than 35 years of age and in need of in vitro fertilization to share their eggs anonymously with women who have been unable to become pregnant because of age.
Egg Donation Program
This allows women who have been unable to become pregnant because of age to obtain eggs donated anonymously or from family or friends so that they can become pregnant using in vitro fertilization. Learn more
Tubal Sterilization Reversal
Advances in microsurgical techniques have increased the percentages of success in reversing surgeries that were first incurred to prevent conception. Learn more
Sperm Banking
Men who will undergo chemotherapy or irradiation for malignancy can save frozen sperm samples so that they can have children at a later time.
Psychological Counseling
Women and Men who plan to have children using donor sperm or eggs routinely discuss their plans with one of our full time reproductive psychologists. Individuals or couples also see our therapists to help them deal with the stress that often accompanies fertility difficulties.
