Reach to Recovery

At The Breast Center, we believe that the support of a breast cancer survivor can greatly help a woman with her own battle. That is why we recommend the American Cancer Society Reach to Recovery program.

Recovery patientFor more than 30 years, this service has helped women (and men) with breast cancer cope with their diagnosis, treatment and recovery. The program uses carefully selected and trained volunteers who have fully adjusted to their breast cancer surgery and treatment. Patients may meet with a volunteer face to face or via telephone.

Reach to Recovery volunteers offer the following services:

  • Provide new patients an opportunity to express feelings, fears and concerns
  • Answer questions from an objective, experienced perspective
  • Serve as a role model—someone who has not only survived breast cancer, but has also gone on to lead a normal, productive life
  • Provide up-to-date information, including literature for a patient and her loved ones
  • Offer information on types of permanent prostheses, when appropriate, and lists of where they are available locally
