University Hospitals Seidman Cancer Center Sets a New Standard for Cancer Care
We all know someone affected by cancer – a friend, relative, coworker or neighbor. And when cancer strikes, everyone involved seeks comfort and support to get through the trials of the disease.
University Hospitals responded to the challenges of our growing cancer population by building the only freestanding cancer hospital in the region, UH Seidman Cancer Center.
UH Seidman Cancer Center opened in spring 2011, unifying all UH Ireland Cancer Center's departments and services under one roof to optimize patient- and family-centered care, provide the latest therapies, enhance collaboration and promote clinical research and education.
The hospital is named in honor of Jane and Lee Seidman, who generously donated $42 million in support of Vision 2010: The UH Difference strategic initiative.
Compassionate Cancer Care
Patients and families at UH Seidman Cancer Center have access to exceptional care from a team of nurses, doctors, support personnel and many others. A collaborative group of specialists provides input on each patient’s case. This multidisciplinary team formulates one single consistent plan, resulting in more effective and efficient care.
Artwork that resonates with the community and a healing garden empowers visitors during what can be a very stressful time.
Innovation and Technology
UH Seidman Cancer Center is home to the latest treatment protocols and the most advanced diagnostic, therapeutic and information technologies. Among them are the PET/MRI machine, a hybrid scanner that helps physicians better understand disease development. Our cancer center is one of only five hospitals in the world with this technology.
Enhanced Patient and Family Experience
Past patients and families provided input during the hospital's development process. Taking their suggestions into consideration, UH Seidman Cancer Center provides visitors with more privacy, comfort and accommodations. Inpatient floors are family- and patient-oriented. They are equipped with family sleeping accommodations, activities rooms and lounges. A Family Resource Center houses computers, books and patient education activities.
Life changes when someone is diagnosed with cancer. UH Seidman Cancer Center builds on our legacy of cancer care and ensures patients and families that real innovation and compassion can make all the difference.
