Physical Concerns

Fatigue is a common condition among cancer patients, especially those undergoing treatment. Some people feel weak or tired; others may complain of being worn out or moving very slowly.

Fatigue occurs for a variety of reasons and, therefore, there are a number of treatments, such as adjusting pain medications, receiving red blood cell transfusions or taking diet supplements.

Pain, another common condition, has to be properly identified before it can be treated. Patients should describe to their doctors the location of the pain, when it started, how long it lasts and if it increases or decreases at certain time of the day or during certain activities. Doctors use this information to create a pain management plan that reduces discomfort and improves emotional, mental and social wellbeing.

Patients may also be affected by other conditions such as nausea and vomiting, sleep disorders and fever, sweats and hot flashes during certain points. Good communication between patients and their doctors will ensure that specific ailments are treated as quickly and effectively as possible.
