As a volunteer in the Ireland Cancer Center, you can work with the health care team to offer care that focuses on the mind and spirit of the patient and family. Several volunteer opportunities exist:

• Patient Orientation Volunteers assist new patients by providing an orientation and tour of the Ambulatory Chemotherapy Center, Radiation Oncology, Breast Center, or other areas as needed. Volunteers greet patients, explain services, identify resources and services, administer questionnaires, and refer medical questions to the appropriate staff member.
• Ambulatory Center Volunteers work with nurses and staff to escort patients, offer hospitality of beverages or snacks, familiarize families with the Resource Room and Touch Screen Computers, and dispense videos or CDs to patients during treatment times. They may also offer companionship for patients and families as needed or interact with children in the waiting area.
• Radiation Oncology Volunteers also assist with patient needs, hostess in the waiting room, organize the play area for children, and restock the pamphlet rack.
