The Evening Before Surgery: Patient Precautions for a Safer Procedure
University Hospitals Seidman Cancer Center and the Urologic Oncology Center requests that kidney cancer patients carefully follow the instructions below in order to prepare for surgery.
Starting around noon on the day before surgery, patients should drink two bottles of magnesium citrate, which can be purchased at the local pharmacy. This product will completely empty the patient’s bowels before the procedure. Patients should not eat or drink anything after midnight the evening before surgery.
If patients have any questions regarding bowel preparation the day before their scheduled surgery, they should call UH Seidman Cancer Center at 1-866-UH4-CARE between 2 p.m. and 5 p.m. Any last-minute questions will be addressed at this time. If patients are unable to contact us during this time, they should call 1-866-UH4-CARE after 6 p.m. to obtain their surgery time and to discuss other pertinent information.
The Urologic Oncology Center requests that patients have insurance information and emergency contacts available.
