University Hospitals Seidman Cancer Center Provides Leading-Edge Resources for Health Professionals

To ensure optimal care, it is vital for health professionals to stay on the leading edge of breast cancer diagnosis and treatment. University Hospitals Seidman Cancer Center offers multiple opportunities for physicians, nurses and support staff to connect with other professionals in educational forums. These options include continuing medical education (CME) classes, as well as residency and fellowship training programs.

CME Programs Enhance Knowledge and Skill Set

Medical professionals have access to our CME programs, which help them maintain and increase their knowledge and skills in specific areas such as oncology. The latest developments and techniques are presented and discussed in CME sessions.

CME credit is available in a wide variety of formats including live meeting events, regularly scheduled conferences, scientific journals and recorded presentations distributed online. Among the offerings is a program on skin- and nipple-sparing mastectomies.

Residency and Fellowship Programs Offer Unique Clinical Experience

University Hospitals offers a number of residency and fellowship programs through Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine. The programs are designed to provide physicians with discipline-specific clinical experience and research opportunities in a community health care environment.

We offer two breast imaging fellowships within University Hospitals Breast Health Center and a fellowship in hematology and oncology.

Fellows and residents also attend weekly multidisciplinary tumor board conferences and a weekly resident conference on breast imaging. They are encouraged to assist in clinical research dealing with the diagnosis and treatment of breast cancer to gain a greater understanding of leading-edge techniques.

Hematology and Oncology Medical Fellowship Provides Specialized, Qualified Training for Physicians

The Hematology and Oncology Cancer Fellowship Training Program provides qualified and authoritative clinical and research training.

The fellowship is available to qualified internal medicine graduates and is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME). Two- and three-year training programs in hematology and/or medical oncology are available.

The program provides in-depth exposure to all aspects of hospital-based cancer care and research, with rotations through the specialties and tumor boards, including breast cancer.

Following completion, physicians will be qualified to practice independently within their field of expertise, and will:

  • Meet requirements for board eligibility set by the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM)
  • Have a broad understanding of clinical aspects of the subspecialties
  • Gain clinical expertise in diagnosis, treatment and management
  • Have experience in both clinical research and basic or translational research
  • Be published in peer-reviewed journals, with the opportunity to present research results at national society meetings
