Breast Health Team Offers Specialized Breast Cancer Patient Action Plan

The multidisciplinary team at University Hospitals Seidman Cancer Center and University Hospitals Breast Health Center, works together to develop treatment plans. Our doctors review new patient cases in weekly conferences where the individual’s clinical presentation, mammography and pathology results are presented. Cases are reviewed by physicians who are:

• Radiologists with expertise in reviewing mammograms
• Surgeons specializing in breast surgery and plastic surgeons specializing in breast reconstruction
• Medical oncologists who specialize in chemotherapy, hormone and biological therapy and targeted therapy
• Radiation oncologists who are specialty trained in using radiation to treat cancer

Specialized nurses work with patients and family members to provide expert care, education about the illness and referrals for home care.

Other team members include social workers and clinical psychologists who provide counseling and support for issues involving finances, transportation, lodging and needs at home. Dietitians offer a nutritional assessment and teach patients about special diets and supplements.
