Clinical Trials Benefit Breast Patients
University Hospitals Seidman Cancer Center physicians and researchers are working to find new ways to help breast cancer patients. To test these new methods, patients are able to participate in clinical trials. As part of a trial, they may be given new treatments that are unavailable at other hospitals.
There are many reasons to consider joining a clinical trial. Some patients feel it offers the best hope for treating their particular condition. In addition to benefiting personally, others may want to participate to help improve the future care of other breast cancer patients. However, there is no way of knowing ahead of time whether the new approach will be more effective than existing treatments. If a new treatment is proven to work, a trial participant may be among the first to benefit.
