A team comprised of radiation therapy specialists representing many cancer related fields plan and deliver treatment for University Hospitals Ireland Cancer Center now University Hospitals Seidman Cancer Center patients.
Radiation Oncologists – medical doctors trained in the use of radiation therapy to treat cancer
Medical Physicists – specialists with advanced degrees who determine the treatment dose schedule and plan; physicists also ensure that the radiation machine is safe and accurate
Medical Dosimetrists – persons who plan and determine the radiation dose for treatment
Nurses – registered nurses with oncology background and special training in radiation therapy techniques; nurses educate patients in managing side effects of treatment and offer guidance in self-care
Radiation Therapists – persons who are trained to position patients for treatment, operate the treatment machines, and give the treatment with accuracy
Oncology Social Workers – professionals with experience to assist patients and families with practical and emotional problems that may occur with a cancer diagnosis
Nutritionists – registered dietitians who help patients maintain weight and nutritional status tailored to individual’s specific needs
Medical Psychologist – specially trained to assist with psychological stress that may accompany a diagnosis such as cancer; individual and family psychotherapy available
