Enhancing Cancer Services Regionally and Nationally

Throughout its history, University Hospitals has strived to provide patients with access to the highest standard of care. University Hospitals Ireland Cancer Center’s history reflects that commitment to excellence through its cancer program.

University Hospitals Case Medical Center’s and Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine’s clinical research contributions have garnered national recognition and respect. To continue building on a remarkable reputation, UH is taking its cancer services to elevated levels by building a new hospital.

UH Ireland Cancer Center now University Hospitals Seidman Cancer Center, is one of only 12 freestanding cancer hospitals in the nation designated by the National Cancer Institute (NCI) as a Comprehensive Cancer Center. Hospitals receive this recognition for maintaining high standards of excellence in patient care, education and clinical research. UH Seidman Cancer Center will allow us new opportunities to continue advancing health care for the community and for professionals all under one roof. Some of the facility’s features include:

  • Patient- and family-centered design: features include inpatient exercise rooms, overnight accommodations for family members, work stations, a multimedia resource center, natural lighting and patient education programs
  • State-of-the-art technologies including the first PET/MRI in a cancer hospital in the world
  • Access to a healing garden and a stress-reduced environment
  • 120-bed facility, with the ability to expand to 150 beds
  • 385,000-square-feet: tripling the square footage that cancer services formerly occupied in seven different locations at UH Case Medical Center
  • Inpatient bed floors with cancer-specific facilities and programs
  • Outpatient services, including physician clinical offices and patient treatment areas
  • Clinical care areas organized to treat specific patient populations
  • Access to the most innovative treatments, including over 300 clinical trials
  • Teaching and conference facilities to promote ongoing community involvement
  • Space for future diagnostic and treatment advancements
