Fluoroscopy is a diagnostic imaging technique that allows the display of organs or joints as they are functioning. A video may also be made during the test for review-on-demand. An x-ray beam is continuously passed through the organ or structure being studied, and the data is immediately relayed to a monitor for viewing the area of study in real time. This technique is often helpful for evaluation of lung and diaphragm abnormalities, swallowing, gastrointestinal function and joint function. Physicians may also order fluoroscopy for other studies, as they find necessary. A Shimadzu fluoroscopy machine is used at UH-Geneva Medical Center.
