Ultrasound – Ultrasound imaging, also called sonography, involves exposing parts of the body to high-frequency sound waves to produce pictures of the inside of the body. Ultrasounds exams do not use ionizing radiation (X-ray) because Ultrasound images are captured in real-time. They can show the structure and movement of the body’s internal organs, as well as, blood flowing through the vessels.

What to Expect

Ultrasound exams are performed by putting warm gel on the area of concern and rubbing a small transducer across the body to obtain internal images. The technologist will obtain a series of images that will be reviewed by a board certified Radiologist for interpretation.

Ultrasound is most commonly known for obstetrical (OB) exams but can be used for many areas of the body including the blood vessels.

The time from when we call you out of the waiting room to the time your exam is completed will take approximately 20 to 40 minutes for most exams.
