Fluoroscopy – These tests are performed by a radiologist to view the tissues and organs in motion. During the examination a continuous X-ray beam is emitted through the part of the body being examined. These tests use X-ray contrast to better visualize the internal organs.

What to Expect

The different fluoroscopy examinations take a different amount of time. The tests can typically take between 30 minutes to two hours. There are a couple different types of contrast used in fluoroscopy exams. The most commonly used contrast is barium. Another type of contrast used is iodinated contrast, which is similar to CT contrast. If you are allergic to the contrast, please inform the technologist.
