Education Programs


Asthma - Occurs when the airways in the lungs become inflamed and constricted. Learn signs and symptoms, prevention and treatment.

Breast Health Education - Learn the warning signs, risk factors, the need for annual mammograms, and clinical breast exams by a physician. Also learn the correct procedure for breast self examination through demonstration on models that contain hidden lumps.

Congestive Heart Failure (CHF) - Nearly five million Americans live with this disease. While
there is no cure, individuals suffering from CHF can enjoy a full life with the right treatment and lifestyle adjustments. Learn about signs and symptoms, medication management, nutrition, physical activity, and associated complications.

Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) - Learn the signs and symptoms, prevention and treatment for a group of chronic lung conditions that obstruct the airways in the lungs.

Diabetes Education - More than 21 million Americans suffer from diabetes. Armed with the most complete and current information, people with diabetes can live long, healthy, happy lives. Learn about signs and symptoms, management including sick day care, nutrition and meal preparation, the importance of exercise, lifestyle changes including traveling guidelines, and the complications associated with the disease.

A Support Group to manage your diabetes is available.

First Aid and CPR & AED Training - The Community Outreach Department staff are National Safety Council certified instructors in CPR/AED and First Aid. Classes are offered to members of the community.

Friendly Neighbor Program - A free service for seniors age 60 and older who live in Ashtabula county. The Outreach Nurse acts as a liaison to link seniors to senior services. The Program’s goal is to keep seniors safe, independent and in their own homes.

Gluten Free - Learn about celiac disease, and a gluten-free diet, including recipes and food samples.

HPV (Human papilloma virus) - The most common sexually transmitted virus in the United States and linked to most cervical cancers. Learn about the effects of HPV, its prevention, including discussion of the new HPV vaccines.

Knee & Hip Pain - Arthritis, injuries, cartilage erosion, age and genetics can impact the health of your knee and hip joints in negative ways. Learn the causes of joint pain, diagnosis and treatment options.

Nutritional Counseling - Maintaining a healthy weight can be difficult. Learn how to read nutrition labels, ideal
portion sizes, and information on weight loss.

Sleep Apnea - Based on reported cases, one in four adults suffers from a sleep disorder that may lead to serious mental, emotional and physical problems. This program includes an overview of sleep apnea, causes of the disorder, risk factors, signs & symptoms, diagnosis, and treatment options.

Smoking Cessation - Helping individuals learn how to stop smoking and live free of nicotine through the understanding of nicotine dependence, and aid in development of strategies for cessation.

Testicular Cancer - Informs of the need for selfexamination to identify changes that may or have occurred in the testicles, discuss signs and symptoms and when to seek medical advice, risk factors, screening and diagnostic procedures and complications. A demonstration of the correct procedure for selfexamination through the use of models is included to practice the newly learned procedure.
