CHARDON, Ohio, June 27, 2007 — University Hospitals Geauga Medical Center has received an award to recognize the organization’s progress toward continuous quality performance excellence.
Geauga Medical Center has earned a bronze level award from the Ohio Partnership for Excellence (OPE), a non-profit entity that utilizes Malcolm Baldrige criteria for performance excellence for organizational improvement. The bronze process enhances organizations as they work toward using the Baldrige Platform as their development model.
The Baldrige process provides a systems perspective for understanding performance management and reflects validated, leading-edge management practices. As a result, many organizations employing the Baldrige approach demonstrate lowered costs, improved productivity, increased financial strength, and increased employee, physician and patient satisfaction.
During the process for the bronze level award, applicants receive coaching and development assistance from senior level OPE examiners. This creates a dialogue between the applicant and OPE which leads to quicker learning and implementation of the Baldrige management approach to performance excellence.
“The Ohio Partnership for Excellence award,” said Richard J. Frenchie, president and chief executive officer of University Hospitals Geauga Medical Center, “is indicative of our passion to exhibit a performance-based culture predicated on leadership excellence and a strong value system.”
Entering into the Ohio Partnership for Excellence is a significant step in Geauga Medical Center’s commitment toward performance excellence. As a result of this process, the hospital has created an action plan which will serve in setting direction and priorities for the hospital to follow in the immediate future.
Over time, Geauga Medical Center expects to become a benchmark hospital for others to learn about and emulate.
Geauga Medical Center will be recognized at this year’s Quest for Success Conference in Cleveland on September 19.
