Partnering with the Child’s Doctor

Sleep Team Works with Child’s Pediatrician to Provide Comprehensive Care for Sleep Disorders

At University Hospitals Geauga Medical Center, our team of specialists works closely with the child’s pediatrician or primary care provider. We encourage parents to talk openly about the child’s sleep issues with their primary care provider.

A child’s primary care physician may refer a patient to the Pediatric Sleep Center for a diagnostic sleep study, or to see one of our sleep medicine specialists to treat more complex problems, such as the need for breathing support during sleep, or non-respiratory issues such as insomnianarcolepsy, or unusual behaviors or movements at night.

If a sleep study is conducted, our team will report the results, including treatment recommendations, to both the parents and the child’s primary care doctor.

Although many children will undergo a sleep study or other special testing when referred to the Pediatric Sleep Center, it is not always necessary for every child.
