Joint Camp

University Hospitals Geauga Medical Center’s Joint Camp Provides an Innovative Approach to Rehabilitation

The Orthopaedic Center at UH Geauga Medical Center provides the highest quality of care in a specialized, state-of-the-art facility. UH Geauga Medical Center’s Joint Camp, an innovative care delivery approach, allows small groups of patients to assist each other through the entire joint replacement surgery experience, from pre-op to post-surgical rehabilitation.

Pre-Op Classes

Joint Camp at UH Geauga Medical Center starts a few weeks before a patient’s joint replacement surgery. At this time, patients gather at the Orthopaedic Center for an informative class to learn all about the surgery, from pre-op to the procedure to postoperative rehabilitation.

Surgery and Post-Surgical Rehabilitation

Patients come to the Orthopaedic Center either the night before or the morning of their minimally invasive knee or hip surgery. This allows time for the patients and family members to get acquainted with the nursing team and to explore the hospital room.

After undergoing joint replacement surgery, the patients interact and work together as a group during rehabilitation. Participants in our Joint Camp benefit from the friendships made and the friendly competition among fellow patients as they work to recover from surgery. In some circumstances, spouses serve as coaches during the rehabilitation process at Joint Camp.
