UH Geauga Medical Center Empowers Region’s Seniors with Outreach Programs

Senior Adult Assessment Program

Sally Bell, former director of the Geauga County Department on Aging in Chardon Ohio, says it is exciting how University Hospitals Geauga Medical Center continuously responds to the needs of Geauga County’s older residents.

According to Bell, the hospital’s doctors, nurses and educators are always enthusiastic about coming to Geauga County’s senior centers to give presentations on a variety of topics, such as nutrition, urinary incontinence, cancer and Alzheimer’s disease.

“They connect with our seniors at ground level. They answer questions and present valuable information that’s easy to understand,” said Bell.

Bell said best of all is UH Geauga Medical Center’s educational outreach program, which empowers seniors to participate more fully in life. She gives the example of a recent gathering of 75 seniors in their 90s who came together to celebrate a birthday.

“They’re not shutting themselves in their homes. They develop the confidence to live life here in Geauga County,” said Bell. “It’s obvious UH Geauga Medical Center is absolutely committed to the vitality of our senior population, and to our entire community.”
