The two main bariatric surgeries are:

We have worked hard to put together a multi-disciplinary program that takes into consideration every need of our patients before, during and after their weight loss surgery.  Our program includes pre-operative education classes, nutritional counseling, post-operative follow-up care and monthly post-operative support group meetings featuring a variety of topics and guest speakers----All in one location that is close to your home.

We start with our program overview that is presented twice a month in our Patient Education Seminar here at UH Geauga Medical Center.  Our seminars usually last about 1.5 hours and cost nothing to attend.  Advanced registration is all that is required.

If, after attending our Educational seminar, you would like to proceed with pursuing weight loss surgery, you can call us to schedule an appointment to meet with Dr. Khaitan for an initial evaluation and consultation and meet with our nutritionist for a dietary evaluation and we take off from there!

The third step is obtaining pre-authorization from your insurance carrier.  Once all necessary documents are collected, your case will be sent to your insurance for approval, depending on your carrier, it may be 4 to 6 weeks until their decision is known.

Once authorization is obtained from your insurance you will be scheduled to attend pre-operative education classes to prepare you for your surgery and for your new life after surgery and you will be scheduled for any needed pre-admission medical tests.

You will then meet with Dr. Khaitan to review all your test results and you will also meet with anesthesia to obtain their medical clearance for your surgery and then it’s off to surgery!
