Treatment
Medications:
(e.g. blood thinners, clot busters, beta blockers, etc.)
Angioplasty:
A special balloon is inserted and inflated inside a blocked blood vessel to restore blood flow to the heart. This procedure is performed in a cardiac catheterization laboratory.
Stenting:
A device called a stent is placed inside an artery to hold open a blood vessel which was previously opened during the angioplasty procedure.
Coronary bypass surgery:
Creates a secondary, alternative route for blood to travel to the heart avoiding the blocked coronary artery.
