Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy Promotes Healing

Hyperbaric oxygen (HBO) therapy is a proven method of speeding the healing of many types of wounds, including:

  • Arterial and venous ulcers
  • Diabetic ulcers
  • Pressure ulcers

The chamber surrounds the patient in 100 percent oxygen at a pressure level approximately 2½ times greater than normal pressure in the atmosphere. This environment helps the patient's blood carry more oxygen to the wound and speeds healing time.

Comprehensive Wound Treatment Methods

In addition to hyperbaric oxygen therapy, UH Elyria Medical Center wound care and hyperbaric medicine offers aggressive wound treatments, including:

  • Compression therapies
  • Dressings
  • Topical wound care bioengineered skin products that enhance healing using living cells
