Each emergency department is staffed by specially trained physicians, nurses, technicians and other health care professionals able to provide efficient care when it is needed most. View the wait times at each emergency care location.

Conditions that Require Emergency Medical Attention

A medical emergency is defined as an injury or illness that is acute and poses an immediate risk to a person’s life or long-term health. Conditions that require emergency care may include:

  • Broken bones, such as leg, hip or arm
  • Injuries to the head, neck or spine
  • Intense pain
  • Loss of consciousness
  • Medication or drug overdose
  • Poisoning
  • Severe breathing problems
  • Severe dementia or depression
  • Suicide attempts
  • Symptoms of a heart attack or stroke
  • Uncontrolled bleeding
  • Uncontrolled vomiting or diarrhea

About the Emergency Departments at UH Elyria Medical Center

All three of our emergency departments are staffed and equipped to handle emergency conditions, including traumas. Should specialized treatment be required at another local facility, each of our emergency departments feature local air medical transport services.
