About
Dr. Sonal Shah is Director of Pediatric Dermatology at University Hospitals Rainbow Babies & Children’s Hospital. Her clinical interests include vascular anomalies, infantile hemangiomas, supportive onco-dermatology and disorders of cornification. Dr. Shah is the co-director of the multidisciplinary Vascular Anomalies Clinic at UH Rainbow, which benefits from her expertise in laser surgery and other treatment methods used to manage these complex disorders. She sees pediatric patients of all ages, from birth to adolescence in the Zagara Clinic located within UH Rainbow Babies & Children’s Hospital.
Dr. Shah joined Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine as a Clinical Associate Professor at University Hospitals Cleveland Medical Center in October 2020. She is a fellow of the American Academy of Dermatology and a board-certified pediatric dermatologist. She completed her medical degree at The Ohio State University College of Medicine, graduating Summa Cum Laude. She went on to complete her internship in internal medicine followed by a residency in dermatology at the McGaw Medical Center of Northwestern University, Feinberg School of Medicine, serving as chief resident. She then pursued further specialty training, completing a pediatric dermatology fellowship at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF). She remained on the faculty at UCSF as an Assistant Clinical Professor and was Director of Pediatric Dermatology at the UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital of Oakland from 2014 to 2016.
Dr. Shah is involved in research and is a member of the Hemangioma Investigator Group and Pediatric Dermatology Research Alliance. She enjoys teaching and mentoring dermatology residents and regularly lectures on pediatric skin disease topics to both dermatology and pediatrics residents. Dr. Shah has published articles in such peer-reviewed journals as Pediatric Dermatology, Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology and JAMA Dermatology.
