About
Charles Luther, MD is board-certified in forensic psychiatry and addiction medicine. Since training at Case Western Reserve University, New York University and Bellevue Hospital Center, he has practiced in hospital, correctional, public health and community settings. In 2015, he returned to Cleveland after a decade of work in New York City. He has held leadership positions overseeing large systems of care as the Director of Correctional Assisted Outpatient Treatment at Rikers Island and the Director of Mental Health for Correctional Health Services at NYC’s Department of Health and Mental Hygiene. In addition he has been a clinical and administrative director in a variety of hospital settings. Dr. Luther has been lauded for his teaching and clinical care by way of New York Medical College’s Teacher of the Year Award and Cleveland’s Mental Health Clinician of the year award. His academic interests include correctional healthcare, legal regulation and administration of healthcare, risk assessment, addictions care, and civil commitment. He has been a forensic psychiatric evaluator at the federal and local level.

At UH, we disclose practitioner and their family members’ ownership and intellectual property rights that are or in the process of being commercialized. In addition, we disclose payments to employed practitioners of $5,000 or more from companies with which the practitioners interact as part of their professional activities. In addition, practitioners report their industry relationships and activities, as well as those of their immediate family members, to the UH Office of Outside Interests annually. We review these reports and implement management plans, as appropriate, to address conflicts of interest that may arise in connection with medical research, clinical care and purchasing decisions.
