About

Ildiko Kondray, MD, joined University Hospital Eye Institute in March 2018 after being in private practice in the Cleveland area since 1981. Dr. Kondray was born in Hungary and came to Cleveland as a teenager. She attended high school and college in Cleveland. After graduating from Cleveland State University cum laude with a Bachelor of Science degree in biology, she went to Buffalo, N.Y., to attend the State University of New York at Buffalo School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences. She obtained her medical diploma in 1977.

Following medical school, Dr. Kondray returned to Cleveland for her post-graduate training. She completed a year of general surgery internship at University Hospitals of Cleveland/Case Western Reserve University Department of Surgery in 1978. Subsequently, she did her ophthalmology residency at University Hospitals from 1978-1981. Dr. Kondray is a board-certified ophthalmologist.

After completing her residency in ophthalmology, Dr. Kondray set up her private practice in Garfield Heights, Ohio. She has provided outstanding medical and surgical ophthalmologic care for 35 years to all of her patients. In order to better serve her patients’ needs, she established Kondray Optical, LLC, thus allowing her patients to receive quality eyewear for all of their optical needs.

Dr. Kondray is excited to return to UH, the place where her ophthalmology career started years before. Her goal is to provide excellent care for all her patients with all aspects of eye conditions at the UH Eye Institute at UH Bedford Medical Center. Dr. Kondray enjoys being a comprehensive ophthalmologist in the community. Her areas of interest include: comprehensive eye exams, cataract and glaucoma evaluations, diabetic retinopathy monitoring, macular degeneration, dry eye syndrome, as well as infections and inflammatory conditions of the eye.

Dr. Kondray is married; her spouse is a retired urologist. They are the proud parents of four sons. In addition to spending time with her family, she enjoys cooking, traveling, theater and growing herbs in her garden.

Industry Relationships

University Hospitals is committed to transparency in our interactions with industry partners, such as pharmaceutical, biotech, or medical device companies. At UH, we disclose practitioner and their family members’ ownership and intellectual property rights that are or in the process of being commercialized. In addition, we disclose payments to employed practitioners of $5,000 or more from companies with which the practitioners interact as part of their professional activities. These practitioner-industry relationships assist in developing new drugs, devices and therapies and in providing medical education aimed at improving quality of care and enhancing clinical outcomes. At the same time, UH understands that these relationships may create a conflict of interest. In providing this information, UH desires to assist patients in talking with their practitioners about industry relationships and how those relationships may impact their medical care.

UH practitioners seek advance approval for certain new industry relationships. In addition, practitioners report their industry relationships and activities, as well as those of their immediate family members, to the UH Office of Outside Interests annually. We review these reports and implement management plans, as appropriate, to address conflicts of interest that may arise in connection with medical research, clinical care and purchasing decisions.

As of December 31, 2016, Ildiko Kondray did not disclose any Outside Relationships with Industry.
