About

Brandon Jonard, MD, is a fellowship-trained orthopedic oncology and trauma surgeon at University Hospitals, and an assistant professor of Orthopaedic Surgery at Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine.

Dr. Jonard completed his undergraduate degree at The Ohio State University, graduating with distinction in mechanical engineering with a biomedical engineering minor. He then earned his Doctor of Medicine degree at Northeast Ohio Medical University prior to his orthopedic surgery residency training at Summa Health in Akron, Ohio. Dr. Jonard completed subspecialty training in orthopedic trauma surgery at Indiana University – Methodist Hospital. This was followed by additional subspecialty training in orthopedic oncology at The James Cancer Hospital and Solove Research Institute, part of The Ohio State University – Wexner Medical Center. Being dual fellowship trained places Dr. Jonard in nationally select community of surgeons specially trained to take care of both trauma and oncology patients.

Dr. Jonard believes that his primary responsibility is to educate and help patients understand their pathology so that they may be involved in the decision-making process. He understands that each patient has their own goals and desires and appropriately tailors treatments to that patient. Because of his dual fellowship training, Dr. Jonard sees all trauma/fracture patients from adolescence through adulthood and oncology patients from infancy through adulthood. He is currently seeing patients at multiple University Hospitals facilities including UH Geauga, UH Geneva, UH Ahuja and UH Cleveland medical centers, and UH Rainbow Babies & Children’s Hospital.

Dr. Jonard provides the latest in limb salvage surgery for oncology patients. He specializes in taking care of children and adults with sarcoma and in tumor resection and reconstruction of the affected area, including the extremities, chest wall and pelvis. He works with a highly integrated and cooperative team at University Hospitals, including medical and radiation oncologists, physical therapists, prosthetists and nutritionists. He also works closely with other surgeons practicing in areas such as oncology, plastics and vascular reconstructions. Dr. Jonard also is involved with the care of other benign and malignant bone tumors, benign and malignant soft tissue neoplasms, and the surgical treatment of metastatic cancers. He also treats patients with fractures of the extremities and pelvis, both secondary to cancer or due to trauma. In addition to patients with acute fracture, Dr. Jonard also treats patients with the sequelae of trauma and/or oncologic processes, including arthritis, nonunion/malunion, deformity, and limb length inequality.

Outside of work Dr. Jonard enjoys spending time with his wife, three children, and two dogs. They enjoy spending time outdoors and exploring the many attractions that exist in Northeast Ohio.

Industry Relationships

University Hospitals is committed to transparency in our interactions with industry partners, such as pharmaceutical, biotech, or medical device companies. At UH, we disclose practitioner and their family members’ ownership and intellectual property rights that are or in the process of being commercialized. In addition, we disclose payments to employed practitioners of $5,000 or more from companies with which the practitioners interact as part of their professional activities. These practitioner-industry relationships assist in developing new drugs, devices and therapies and in providing medical education aimed at improving quality of care and enhancing clinical outcomes. At the same time, UH understands that these relationships may create a conflict of interest. In providing this information, UH desires to assist patients in talking with their practitioners about industry relationships and how those relationships may impact their medical care.

UH practitioners seek advance approval for certain new industry relationships. In addition, practitioners report their industry relationships and activities, as well as those of their immediate family members, to the UH Office of Outside Interests annually. We review these reports and implement management plans, as appropriate, to address conflicts of interest that may arise in connection with medical research, clinical care and purchasing decisions.
