Intensive Care Unit (ICU)

The Intensive Care Unit of UH Conneaut Medical Center is a multi purpose Special Care Unit dedicated to providing highly concentrated, comprehensive, individualized, goal directed nursing care in a specified area to those patients who require intensive monitoring/care due to the seriousness of their illness. Patients are cared for by a staff of skilled personnel whose training is directed toward meeting the physical, spiritual, social, environmental, cultural, and emotional needs of their patients through the process of assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation from admission to discharge.

The Intensive Care Unit is primarily concerned with the care of patients suffering from life threatening, but potentially manageable conditions. The critical nature of the condition may be actual or potential and is often associated with secondary effects on other organs or systems. These patients require the most progressive care as a result of the condition itself or the necessary therapeutic interventions involved.
