University Hospitals Partners With Area Groups To Raise Awareness Of Prescription Drug Abuse
We are in an epidemic of prescription pain medication overdose. According to the Ohio Department of Health, nearly all unintentional poisoning deaths and nine out of 10 poisoning hospitalizations result from drugs.
The Ohio Prescription Drug Abuse Task Force has been established for the treatment and law enforcement of prescription medication abuse. University Hospitals Conneaut Medical Center and University Hospitals Geneva Medical Center are partnering with the Ashtabula County Prevention Coalition to ensure our physicians, employees and emergency responders are trained to identify and counsel individuals suffering from addiction to prescription medications.
Families and friends can also attend meetings of the local chapter of S.O.L.A.C.E. (Surviving Our Losses And Continuing Everyday) at our facilities. S.O.L.A.C.E. is a support group for individuals concerned about the growing problem of opiate use in Ashtabula County. The support group shares stories of loved ones and the fight against prescription drug abuse.
