Lung Nodule Clinic

Expert Team Detects and Treats Lung Cancer and Other Pulmonary Diseases

The Lung Nodule Clinic at University Hospitals, staffed by a highly skilled team of clinicians, offers comprehensive evaluation and state-of-the-art treatment for lung nodules.

Lung nodules are often discovered when a computed tomography (CT) scan or X-ray is done for other medical reasons. Most lung nodules are noncancerous (benign); however, they may also represent an early stage of lung cancer or indicate that a cancer is spreading from another part of the body (malignant.) Determining whether a lung nodule is benign or malignant is an important first step in achieving the best possible outcome.

The Lung Nodule Clinic team, coordinated by a nurse navigator, will work together to provide early detection and treatment of lung cancer and other diseases.

Treatments Available

Some lung nodules will only require close follow-up and continuing evaluation by a pulmonologist. If cancer is detected, our team closely collaborates with the lung cancer experts at University Hospitals Seidman Cancer Center to develop a comprehensive and individualized treatment plan.

When necessary, the following treatment options are available:

  • Robotic minimally invasive surgery
  • Minimally invasive thoracic surgery
  • Video assisted thoracic surgery (VATS)
  • Leading-edge radiation and chemotherapy
