Adult Reconstruction Fellowship

The Total Joint Reconstruction Fellowship program at University Hospitals Cleveland Medical Center in Cleveland, Ohio, provides fellows with a well-rounded clinical and research experience involving all aspects of adult joint reconstructive and arthritis surgery.

Joint Replacement and Joint-Preserving Surgical Procedures

Although the major focus of the fellowship is on primary and revision joint replacement surgery, the fellow will also be exposed to joint-preserving surgical procedures (periacetabular and knee osteotomies) and total shoulder arthroplasty.

Attending staff is trained in the following:

• Minimally invasive unicompartmental knee replacement
• Mini-incision total hip replacement
• 2-incision total hip replacement
• Quad-sparing total knee replacement

Clinically Related Research and Educational Programs

More than 1,100 total joint replacements are performed annually at UH Cleveland Medical Center. Fellows are expected to be actively involved in clinically related research during their fellowship year, which is facilitated by a large implant retrieval program and a computerized joint replacement patient registry.

Opportunities also exist for the fellow to become involved in basic science research in a variety of areas related to the biology, mechanics and materials of joint replacement implants. Fellows will participate in the educational programs at University Hospitals and the Cleveland VA Medical Center.
