Application Procedure

General Application Information

The University Hospitals Orthopaedics Surgery Residency Program accepts applications through the Electronic Residency Applications Service (ERAS). Two interview dates are scheduled during the months of December and January, and approximately thirty candidates are interviewed during each session. Candidates are interviewed by attendings and at least one chief resident. Additionally, members of each residency class are available for campus tours and informal question-and-answer sessions. Interviews are granted by invitation via e-mail.

Applicants only need to apply to the program and not two separate matches.

Application Requirements

We require all of the basic ERAS application materials. In addition, if you are given an interview, we request an undergraduate transcript. It is not necessary to provide this transcript until you receive notification about your interview. This may be sent to us via:

  • E-mail:
  • Fax: 216-201-4239
  • Mail: JoAnn Laurent, Educational Coordinator
    Department of Orthopaedic Surgery
    Case School of Medicine/University Hospitals
    11100 Euclid Avenue

The deadline for all application materials is October 15. Those selected for interviews will be notified by email.

For Foreign/United States Medical School Graduates

It is hospital policy to comply with the immigration laws of the United States, and all residents must obtain and maintain an immigration status that permits employment by the hospital in a clinical capacity. It is a requirement that an International Medical Graduate (IMG) hold a valid certificate from the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG). If, at any time, a resident fails to timely obtain or retain the requisite visa status from the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (“USCIS”) (formerly the Immigration and Naturalization Service) the resident will be subject to dismissal or leave of absence, with or without pay, at the discretion of the Director of GME, in view of all the surrounding circumstances.
