In 2001, scientists based at the University Hospitals Center for Clinical Research, were engaged in over $75 million in extramurally funded research, in partnership with Case Western Reserve University.

In addition, the Center for Clinical Research performed over $10 million in sponsored research activities in partnership with various pharmaceutical, biotechnology, and medical device companies. Together with Case Western Reserve University, University Hospitals forms the largest center for biomedical research in the State of Ohio and consistently ranks in the top 15 centers around the country.

The Center for Clinical Research expands research strategies into broader areas of clinical and biomedical research, capitalizing on an explosion of knowledge into the molecular, cellular and genetic bases of disease to create advances in the detection, treatment and prevention of disease. The Center for Clinical Research is designed to aggressively translate fundamental advances in scientific knowledge into advances in the clinical medicine by establishing new alliances with the pharmaceutical, biotechnology and medical device industries.

The Center for Clinical Research collaborates closely with Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine to coordinate strategic planning in research across the full spectrum of studies from basic laboratory-based research to patient-oriented clinical trials.
