This study is designed to look at changes in glucose (sugar), as well as changes in lipids (fats), quality of life, sleepiness, and blood pressure in participants with sleep apnea and borderline diabetes. |

| Description: |
This research study will evaluate individuals who have frequent breathing pauses during sleep (sleep apnea) and are at risk for diabetes.. This study is designed to look at changes in glucose (sugar), as well as changes in lipids (fats), quality of life, sleepiness, and blood pressure in participants with sleep apnea and borderline diabetes. Participants will be treated with two months of breathing therapy and two months of sham, or fake, breathing therapy. The study will see if the breathing therapy improves sleep problems which in turn may prevent participants from developing diabetes. |
| Criteria: |
Participants must have problems with their glucose but not diabetes, have sleep apnea, be between the ages of 18-and 75 , and are be in good health without obvious daytime sleepiness. A glucose test and a home sleep study for sleep apnea for patients who are at high risk for these conditions will be provided at no cost to those individuals who have not had these specific tests. |
